What is the best way to defend yourself against an attacking dog?

Sometimes dogs just start barking at you for no reason and they seem to be in position to bite you, my question is, how do you repel or defend from an attacking dog? using only your body, not throwing rocks or using a stick or anything like that. Best answer gets the 10 points.

Not all dogs barking at you will attack. In fact the more they bark the more nervous they are. A dog that is going to attack usually will not hesitate. If he is still barking talk soothingly to him and keep walking away but don't look away. If he does attack stay on your feet if at all possible so he doesn't get your neck or head. Try to get him by the scruff or around the neck and hold him down with your weight. Most untrained dogs will give up.
